  3. Gamut’s 9th Anniversary Party

Comments Off on Gamut’s 9th Anniversary Party

Celebrate Gamut Gallery’s 9th Anniversary surrounded by the art, music & great people!! Join us on Saturday, June 12th for our Pop-Up Maker’s Market featuring Twin Cities makers, live art by Reggie LeFlore and music by 88Project & DI/ASPORA.

    [bscolumns class=”one_half”]

It is unbelievable that we’ve been at this for Nine years already! We opened our doors in 2012 with the mission to bring people together to experience art and stimulate dialogue, and we are happy to announce our mission is going strong in Elliot Park.  After all this time, we are still here doing what we love the most, celebrating the Twin Cities community through the power of engaging with the arts. As the world begins to open back up, we want to take the chance to create a day of fun, focusing on shining the spotlight on several makers whom we have showcased over the years – plus we are excited to welcome a couple new faces this Saturday as well!

The Makers Market will be set amongst our current exhibition, Setting the Groundwork by Reggie LeFlore. LeFlore’s visual autobiography featured in the gallery, will spark the dialogue amongst the attendess connecting the story from our walls into our back courtyard where LeFlore will be live painting. No good party is set without the perfect soundtrack and we will have 88Project and DI/ASPOR playing house music all day long.

The principle that art fosters community, that art is for everyone, and everyone should have access to becoming a collector drives our inclusive philosophy, an idea we work to spread throughout our community and beyond. We are so blessed to have exhibited 95 exhibitions these past nine years, showing the full spectrum of media, content and styles, with a focus on showcasing innovative artists. Along with those exhibitions we have hosted 245 creative social events, and shown the work of more than 825 artists.

As always without you, there would be no us! Thank you for your years of support & we hope to see you on Saturday to celebrate! [/bscolumns][bscolumns class=”one_half_last_clear”]

As a local art gallery & retail space, the holidays are our favorite time of year! Nothing makes us happier than helping our community spread love through the arts. While gatherings and holiday arrangements feels a bit different this year, there is so much magic to be made this season. The event that kicked off Gamut’s inception is back for the 9th year in a row! A holiday shop in a gallery setting, Gamut provides a fun-filled, consumer-conscious alternative to chain stores and mall shopping. Our annual holiday retail shop, Raging Art On (RAO), will feature over a dozen new artists and many others that have been with us from the very beginning.

With the exception of selecting the participants, Gamut leaves the rest up to the local artists. In doing so, they choose their works and the number of pieces they wish to show.  What emerges is a gallery filled with paintings, photos, prints, collectibles, jewelry, sculptures, and more! RAO will kick-off with a dedicated members only night on Tuesday, December 1st, followed by 3 weeks of FREE open gallery hours + selected works will remain available online through January 5th.

As we continue to assess the evolving nature of COVID-19, Gamut Gallery will be operating under limited capacity to allow adequate social distancing. Additionally, to ensure everyone has access to a safe holiday shopping experience, patrons may request an appointment. We want our community to know above all, we hear you and we’re here for you. Hesitations towards crowds and anxiety around holiday planning are valid concerns. We will be keeping the gallery clean by actively sanitizing, temperature readings, and enforcing social distancing. We are also happy to announce that we will be providing alternatives to in-person shopping, such as online ordering, curbside pickup, virtual shopping appointments & private shopping sessions.

Selected works featured in RAO will be available on Gamut’s website for those who wish to shop from the comfort of their home beginning Wednesday, December 2nd! Gamut Gallery will also be diligent with Instagram and Facebook live streams during our open hours. Go ahead and wear your pjs while shopping for your holiday essentials!

Raging Art On reflects Gamut Gallery’s ethos of community, collaboration, the art of the happening and eco-consciousness. Artworks & gifts are cash-n-carry at our holiday sale, they are handmade locally and are in harmony with those values. In 2020, more than ever, let our artists be your elves and continue to support our vibrant community of local artists and makers.

Bigger & better than previous years, Raging Art On (RAO) holiday shop will be open for 3 weeks, featuring over 20 new artists, and will include a guaranteed party with extended hours. An “uncurated” holiday makers market in a gallery setting, Raging Art On provides a unique, consumer-conscious experience that allows any adventurous shopper to find the perfect gift for anyone on their shopping list! With the exception of selecting the participants, Gamut leaves the rest up to the local artists to decide the amount of work they show and where to show it. What results is a gallery packed to the brim with paintings, photos, prints, collectibles, handmade apparel, jewelry, housewares, and more.

ARTISTS // Aaron Brand, Annie Hejny, Benjamin Wuest, Carla Rodriguez, Christopher E. Harrison, Christopher Palbicki , CL Martin, Derek Dwyer, Desi Moore, Elissa Cedarleaf Dahl, Eric Mueller, Erik Farseth, Grace Sippy, Jacob Docksey, James Schenck, Julia Wilson, Lisa Pemrick, Maggie Dimmick, Maxwell Mateikis, Meranda Turbak, Mic Stowell, Natalia Berglund, Nicholas Kovatch, Phaedra Odelle, Philip Noyed, Polly Norman, Roger Johnson, Terry Barczak, & Toni Gallo.

From political statements to traditional expression, delicate intricacies to abstracted geometries, human intimacy to surreal landscapes – C4W: 2018 curated by Tara LaPlante presents a kaleidoscopic range of styles, mediums, and artists’ points of view. More than 120 artists participated in Gamut Gallery’s “C4W: Call for Work” this year, submitting up to 5 pieces each of a wide range of visual media, including: video, installation art, sculpture, experimental technology, photography, fiber, drawing, painting, and collage.

While there is no predetermined theme for the C4W exhibitions, the guest curator brings their unique perspective and interpretation to the submitted works. LaPlante was particularly fascinated by the diversity of the submissions – a characteristic that embodies Gamut’s approach to programming, where we strive to run the gamut of various styles, content and media – and made her selections based on their high standard of work and distinct quality. “My vision is to immerse the viewer within the broad and bold strokes of these art forms together, saturated in the idea that diversity in itself can create strength, set intrigue, and act as the spark for conversation and humanity,” said LaPlante.

New this year, there will be two “Best in Show” awards. One will be selected by the guest curator and the other by opening night attendees. Both winners will be awarded $100 cash and Platinum Memberships to Gamut Gallery ($250 value). In addition to the opening reception, there will be other special events during the course of the exhibit: the 2nd annual Members Gala will be held on Saturday, November 10th; and, a screening of locally-produced short dramas will serve as the exhibit finale on Saturday, November 17th. ABOUT THE CURATOR
Tara LaPlante is a visual artist, founder of the multimedia events brand Futra, and business manager for the motion graphics studio Immanent. Originally from Wisconsin, she graduated from Montana State with a BFA in Painting in 2000, and studied Art History abroad at Maastricht University in The Netherlands. After school she moved back to the Midwest to continue her creative endeavors. In Minneapolis, she co-founded the art collective Offbeat Gallery and record label Timefog, which was home to many international techno artists.

Tara’s relocation to Los Angeles in 2009 formed a change in her vision. The fusion of dance music culture and visual arts became the source of inspiration for Futra. Founded in 2012, this multimedia experience brand features DJ’s, producers, designers, performers, and visual artists through releases, podcasts, club events, and art spaces. Since 2015, the focus of Futra has altered to generating large-scale, concept-driven, multimedia gallery shows. Her personal art is colorful, abstract, and ranges from expressionistic to minimal in style. She currently works in painting, paper collage, and textile arts.

A holiday sale in a gallery setting, Gamut Gallery provides a fun-filled, consumer conscious alternative to chain stores and mass mall shopping with the 6th annual shopping event, Raging Art On. Described as an “art-happening meets holiday party meets pop-up boutique,” an “uncurated” art experience awaits the adventurous shopper on the hunt for the perfect gift for the artist, musician, writer or other creative maker on their holiday season shopping list. This year, Gamut has extended the annual sale to include an additional day, which means five days, extra hours of epic rummaging and, of course, more time to enjoy the party. We’ve hand-selected the 50+ local artists involved, but they decide what to show and where to show it. What results is a gallery packed from floor to ceiling with paintings, photography, prints, collectibles, handmade apparel, jewelry, housewares, and more.

The five-day-long event will see performances from DJs James Patrick, Modwell, Danny Sigelman, Juleana Enright, Bobby Kahn, Tony “Etones” Larson, Jesse Lingenfelter, and The Headspace Collective. Come for the art; stay for the party.
