    MINNEAPOLIS, November 14, 2012 — Gamut Gallery’s second annual “Raging Art On” runs December 8-15, 2012. Attendees will be able to buy local, support the arts and experience a Gamut Gallery Art Happening all at once. Paintings, photography, sculpture, clothing, jewelry, ornaments, housewares and more; will engulf the gallery walls and the Slam Factory studio downstairs, as the artists themselves hang the show. Over twenty artists have been selected to transform the entire space, literally floor to ceiling, with their art. Once selected, each artist has full license to select as many works of any content or style as they see fit, for this uncurated show – anything goes. When the shopping begins the walls are transformed once more, as art-buyers receive the instant gratification of taking their finds home with them.

    Gamut Gallery seeks to reinvent holiday shopping, staying true their mission statement belief that “art fosters community.” Raging Art On offers those looking for alternatives to big-box stores and mall shopping, a place to join together with art, music, refreshments, and other inspired people. Gifts purchased at this event are one-of-a-kind, handmade locally and are in-line with the values of people who are concerned with mainstream holiday effects on landfills, factory/ shipping pollution, outsourcing/ fair trade, consumer culture and the person on their list who thinks they have everything.

    Like all Gamut events, experiencing it first-hand is part of the art. The opening event, Saturday, December 8, 6-10PM, will be the opportunity to have first pick of the art. DJs JoBot and Andrew Wood will provide the soundtrack for the evening, and fresh organic juice will be available from Nuri, made on the spot, alongside other refreshments.     MINNEAPOLIS, November 11, 2012 –Renee and Early represent a burgeoning esthetic that is transitioning from books, media, and pop iconography into galleries. These artists remain true to the wonderment and jovial perspective drawn from childhood. They share bold use of color and line, trading texture and detail for contemporary design and eye-grabbing imagery.

    KATE RENEE /// Kate Renee has exhibited across the US and in Japan. She has received press, numerous awards and has been published locally. Renee earned a BA in Fine Arts, Art History, and a minor in design from the University of Minnesota in 2010. Renee has interned at various galleries, culminating in a position at Altered Esthetics. The characters Renee paints are familiar and friendly, yet bold and sassy.     BRETT EARLY /// Brett Early has been commissioned for store fronts in Minneapolis, such as Heavenly Soles and Buffalo Exchange. He remains a regular exhibitor at local art crawls and cafes. Early received a BFA in Illustration from the College of Visual Arts in 2005. Much of his training in illustration was rigorously aimed toward commercial applications. Early came away from this experience with a highly-attuned understanding of color, line, purpose and concept, but also with a distinct urge to reclaim the joy of painting for the elusive reasons of the folk artist, outsider-artist, or child. Early’s commitment: “If you are not having fun when looking at my work, then I’m not doing my job”

    – all sizes, styles, and seasons of men’s and women’s wearable goods welcome
    – try stuff on, aka “play dress-up!”
    – step into the photo booth to capture your good looks
    2) Leave with new-to-you gear!
    – bring a bag or two to carry home your swap findings
    – except for the real gems (which will we store for the next Glam Slam), all the left over gear will be donated to charity

    Glam Slam reflects Gamut Gallery’s values of community, the art of the happening and eco-consciousness. Recycling clothing into a swap saves room in a landfill as well as resources for new garments. Bringing people together for happenings that create moments for diverse groups of people to interact with one another builds community. The gallery began with these intentions on June 9th, 2012, with a grand opening, multimedia event attended by over five hundred people and an official Northern Spark Festival location. Now they are nominated for the City Page’s “Best Art Gallery.”

    No one system can reproduce all colors in the spectrum, and no one artist can create an entire aesthetic in one art piece. This show will feature art that crosses the continuum of possibilities; the collective will illustrate the Gamut. True to the spirit of the Gamut, this show displays dynamic content and style from a diverse group of local artists, creatively tied together through the use of color.

    MINNEAPOLIS Saturday, July 14 2012– Conditions explores ideas of vulnerability and control, expressed through portraits of the female body. Hane identifies her work as part of a new era of feminism that does not pit itself against masculinity, but rather openly explores a feminine perspective. In this exhibit, Hane confronts expected molds or versions of self, reinforcing concept with technique. She prepares her lithographs, screenprints and intaglios by beginning with a digital template, which she alters through hand-drawn elements and manual deletion of information. She then uses these matrices to print multiple-layer compositions.

    “The result is a series of iterations, similar to the way a thought or conversation plays in my mind over and over again; slightly different, yet slightly the same”.

    Ash Marlene Hane was born in Northern Minnesota. In 2008 she earned a double BA in Art History and Studio Art, with a focus in printmaking. Her time at the University of Minnesota was spent under the mentorship of Printmaking Professor and Fulbright Scholar, Jenny Schmid. Hane was a founding member of the U of M’s printmaking collective, Bohemian Press, and continues to be an active member of the local printmaking community.

    Two associated events will be held at Gamut Gallery during this exhibit:

    Reception for the opening of Conditions, Saturday, July 14, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
    In response to the exhibit, award-winning choreographer Judith Howard will collaborate with Hane and notable dancers Krista Langberg and Kristin Van Loon, performing Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12 at 8:00 p.m.

     

  7. Synergy

    MINNEAPOLIS June 9, 2012 – Synergy is the third joint exhibit for Kingman and Yordanova. Their collaborative work process involves applying oil-based ink to a glass plate and quickly manipulating it to create an image. As soon the application is done, they press a sheet of paper on the glass plate to transfer or ‘print’ the image. After the ink dries, they add watercolors. The brilliance of the watercolor adjacent to the rich black ink provides contrast and vibrancy. The whole process allows for “happy mistakes” and unexpected surprises that create a spontaneous and expressive look.

    For the opening reception, Playatta provided an interactive component to Synergy. Using images from the artworks, Playatta installed a projection mapping station where guests could manipulate the movements and textures being projected onto geometric shapes (shown below). As part of the Northern Spark Festival – the grand opening of Gamut Gallery –  Synergy’s opening reception lived up to its name. With projections inside the gallery and out, live painting, sculpture, and soundscapes with Kingman and Yordanova’s energetic works on the gallery walls, the sum was certainly more than the parts.

    Brant Kingman /// International artist and staple in the Minneapolis creative community, Kingman lived in NYC for seven years booking shows in art venues such as PS1, now run by MOMA. He has transformed a 5,600 square foot studio in NE Minneapolis into a production facility, where he creates interactive installations, sculptures, and more. http://www.kingmanstudios.com

    Silvia Yordanova /// Born in Yambol, Bulgaria, Yordanova grew up in a family of artists. She has a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota, and her love for nature is reflected in her artwork. She strives to communicate positivity through the use of color with surreal and impressionist elements.

    Minneapolis, MN – May 9, 2012  –  Gamut Gallery announces its grand opening with a multimedia indoor/outdoor exhibit – “ARTifacts in the Gallery, Live CoLab in the Alley” – as part of the Northern Spark Festival June 9, 2012. The debut exhibit features new works by Brant Kingman and Silvia Yordanova, sculpture by Hannah Howard, projection mapping by Jim Weiss, motion graphics by Brad Nesseth, interactive Playatta, and live painting by James Khani, Schuyler Huber, Wade Timmreck, Matt Task Rock, and Peyton. Experimental electronic music will be curated by the Slam Academy.

    Gamut Gallery was founded by a group of people who met on the dance floor and formed a weekly art night in 2010 called Co Lab. Two years later, Gamut Gallery was conceived. More than a place to view art, it’s a place that emphasizes art as an interactive experience. The gallery will show diverse collections that run the gamut of mediums from artists that are local or visiting, well-known or up-and-coming, classic or subversive.
